Dark Tower: Mad Max Actress Abbey Lee in Talks to Play Tirana

Sony Pictures and MRC have offered to “Mad Max: Fury Road” actress Abbey Lee the role of Tirana in its adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower.”

Idris Elba is on board to play Roland, and Matthew McConaughey is on board to play the Man in Black. Sony and MRC declined to comment.

Nikolaj Arcel is directing the movie, which is currently set to bow on Jan. 13, 2017.

The first installment in the series of books focuses on Roland, the Gunslinger, establishing a relationship with young protege Jake Chambers. It is unknown how faithful to the book the depiction of Tirana will be in the films.

The first book, “The Gunslinger,” has already been adapted by Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner. Goldsman and Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Erica Huggins will produce, while Pinkner will exec produce.

Sony will distribute the pic. MRC will also develop a TV series to go along with the film franchise. Production is set to start sometime this spring.

Lee played one of the wives that Charlize Theron’s Furiosa rescues from captivity in “Mad Max: Fury Road” and has been in high demand ever since. She can be seen next in Summit’s “Gods of Egypt” as well as Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Neon Demon.”
