Margot Robbie Wears 1977 Superstar Barbie Dress to Golden Globes, Reveals She Hasnt Reache
Margot Robbie stunned the 2024 Golden Globes red carpet by bringing a signature Barbie look to real life. The nominee revealed during the Golden Globes pre-show presented by Variety and Entertainment Tonight that she teamed up with Armani to recreate the one and only Superstar Barbie’s outfit from 1977.
It’s only apt for Robbie to go full Barbie on the Globes red carpet considering the film of the same name is up for nine awards at the 2024 ceremony, including best picture – comedy or musical. Robbie herself picked up a nomination for best actress in a comedy or musical. “Barbie” grossed $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office over the summer to become the top grossing film of 2023 and the highest-grossing film in Warner Bros.’ history.

“It’s more about what that number represents,” Robbie said when asked about the box office gross. “When we would go to the theater on opening weekend and seeing this sea of people wearing pink or dressed up as Ken, it was such a wild feeling and I haven’t seen this communal kind of experience since I was a kid.”
Robbie was also asked to weigh in Lady Gaga’s upcoming portrayal of Harley Quinn in “Joker: Folie à Deux,” which is hitting theaters this October. Robbie famously played Harley Quinn in films such as “Suicide Squad” and “Birds of Prey,” but she hasn’t contacted Gaga about the character — at least not yet.
“She’s going to crush it! She’s going to be amazing,” Robbie said about Gaga. “I actually haven’t spoken to her about it. I almost don’t want to know so I can save it for a surprise when I see the movie.”
Robbie previously told Variety that she is excited another actor is going to put her stamp on Harley Quinn and she does not feel possessive over playing the superhero role.
“I always wanted Harley to be a character that would get passed on to other actresses to play, the way there are so many iconic male characters,” Robbie said. “That was always the dream for her. Harley’s so fun and can go in so many different directions. You put her in someone else’s hands, and it’s like, ‘What are they going to do with her?’ The options are endless.”
As for what’s up next for Robbie, it’s not going to be a “Barbie” sequel. At least not immediately. “It’s funny, that knee-jerk reaction in this day and age for everyone to immediately ask about a sequel,” she told Variety. “I don’t think it was like that 20 years ago. This wasn’t designed to be a trilogy.”
“I don’t know what more could even look like,” she added. “We want to make more films that have the effect that ‘Barbie’ has. I don’t know if it has to be ‘Barbie 2.’ Why can’t it be another big, original, bold idea where we get an amazing filmmaker, a big budget to play with, and the trust of a huge conglomerate behind them to go and really play? I want to do that.”
