That's because many NFL players have contract incentives — or bonuses — in addition to their guaranteed salaries, that provide them the opportunity to boost their pay if they meet certain milestones throughout the season.
For example, in the last week of the regular season, Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon scored his 12th touchdown of the season — unlocking a $350,000 bonus.
Many players have incentives tied to their performance in the playoffs as well.
Here's how much extra money nine NFL quarterbacks will receive if they win the Super Bowl in Las Vegas on February 11, ranked from lowest to highest amount.
9. Brock Purdy
In 2022, Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers agreed to a four-year contract that pays him an average annual salary of roughly $934,000 a year.
Purdy will earn an extra $164,000 if San Francisco wins the Super Bowl.
The 49ers (12-5) are the Super Bowl favorites, according to DraftKings.
8. Baker Mayfield
In 2023, Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers agreed to a one-year, $4 million contract.
Mayfield will earn an extra $250,000 if Tampa Bay wins the Super Bowl.
The Buccaneers (9-8) have the 12th-best Super Bowl odds.
7. Jalen Hurts
In 2023, Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles agreed to a contract extension that pays him an average annual salary of $51 million.
Hurts will earn an extra $500,000 if Philadelphia wins the Super Bowl.
The Eagles (11-6) have the sixth-best Super Bowl odds.
6. Jared Goff
In 2019, Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions agreed to a four-year contract that pays him an average annual salary of nearly $34 million a year.
Goff will earn an extra $945,000 if Detroit wins the Super Bowl.
The Lions (12-5) have the eighth-best Super Bowl odds.
5. Jordan Love (tie)
Last May, Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers agreed to a contract extension that would pay him at least $9.8 million in 2023.
Love will earn an extra $1 million if Green Bay wins the Super Bowl.
The Packers (9-8) have the 13th-best Super Bowl odds.
5. Dak Prescott (tie)
In 2021, Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys agreed to a contract extension that pays him an average annual salary of $40 million.
Prescott will earn an extra $1 million if Dallas wins the Super Bowl and he plays at least 50% of the offensive snaps.
The Cowboys (12-5) have the fourth-best Super Bowl odds.
3. Patrick Mahomes
In September, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs agreed to a restructured deal that pays him an average annual salary of nearly $53 million.
Mahomes will earn an extra $1.25 million if Kansas City wins the Super Bowl — as long as he plays at least 50% of the game's offensive snaps.
The Chiefs, who finished the regular season with a record of 11-6, have the fifth-best Super Bowl odds among 14 playoff teams, according to DraftKings.
2. Joe Flacco
In December, Joe Flacco and the Cleveland Browns agreed to a one-year, $2.5 million contract.
Flacco will earn an extra $2 million if Cleveland wins the Super Bowl. He would also earn $250,000, $500,000, and $1 million, respectively, for victories in the three preceding games.
The Browns (11-6) have the ninth-best Super Bowl odds.

In 2021, Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills agreed to a contract extension that pays him an average annual salary of over $43 million a year.
Allen will earn an extra $2.5 million if Buffalo wins the Super Bowl and he plays at least 60% of the offensive snaps.
